Faridpur Protest Demands Ban on Awami League, Justice for Uprising Victims

A protest rally and human chain were held in Faridpur on Wednesday, demanding justice for the victims of the July-August uprising and a ban on the Awami League (AL). The event, organised by Gana Odhikar Parishad’s Faridpur district unit, took place in front of Faridpur Press Club at 4 PM.

The rally was presided over by Faridpur district Gana Odhikar Parishad President Forhad Hossain, with several leaders and activists in attendance.

Calls for Justice and Reform

During the demonstration, speakers accused the former AL government of suppressing dissent and violating human rights. They alleged that AL and its student wing, Chhatra League, continued to engage in violence and intimidation, calling for their immediate ban.

Protesters demanded:

Justice for the victims of the July-August uprising

Proper medical treatment and BDT 300,000 compensation for the injured

A clear electoral roadmap, including local elections before national polls

Accountability for political violence and punishment for those responsible

Speakers also claimed that pro-AL groups were using social media to incite violence, urging authorities to shut down their pages.

Citywide Protest March

Following the speeches, demonstrators marched through the streets of Faridpur, chanting slogans in support of their demands.
