The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called for the immediate announcement of an electoral roadmap to ensure a swift return to democracy. The demand was made at a mass rally held at Shaheed Smriti Poura Udyan in Tangail on February 17, where central and local BNP leaders addressed thousands of party activists from different upazilas.
Rally Focused on Public Demands
Speakers at the rally emphasized several key demands, including stabilizing the prices of essential commodities, improving law and order, and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. The large gathering of BNP supporters turned the venue into a vibrant demonstration of political mobilization.
Leaders’ Statements
Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of BNP’s National Standing Committee and the chief guest at the event, criticized the government’s approach to democracy.
“In the past, autocratic rulers said development comes before democracy. Now, the current government claims reforms must come before democracy. But in a truly democratic nation, democracy should always come first. BNP is committed to restoring it,” he said.
The keynote speaker, BNP’s National Executive Committee Vice Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, expressed concerns over the country’s law and order situation.
“The law and order situation in Bangladesh is far from normal. A country cannot function like this. We demand immediate elections to restore democracy and accelerate national development,” he stated.
