February 22, 2025 – In a powerful speech at the first convocation of the University of Scholars, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser, emphasized the critical role of environmental protection in shaping Bangladesh’s future. She stressed the importance of pursuing development in a way that does not overburden nature and encouraged students to live harmoniously with the environment.
Rizwana said, “In an evolving world, sustainability must be at the heart of our way of life,” while addressing the graduates at Sena Prangon in Dhaka Cantonment. She underscored that nature cannot be conquered, but rather, humanity must learn to coexist with it.
Advocating for Student Responsibility in Pollution Control
Calling on students to contribute actively to mitigating noise and plastic pollution, Rizwana emphasized that their responsibility extends beyond personal ambitions. “True education is realized when it serves the betterment of society and the country,” she remarked. She cautioned that posting on social media alone does not lead to change, urging the graduates to take concrete actions for real transformation.
The Role of Youth in Shaping Bangladesh’s Future
Rizwana further stressed that the future of Bangladesh depends largely on the decisions made by the youth of today. “We must uphold ethics, values, and a sense of responsibility as we move forward,” she said, encouraging students to reflect on the broader impact of their actions.
The adviser also highlighted the need for an efficient system that ensures accessible services for all citizens. “Our duty is not just to think about ourselves but also to consider the welfare of society and the country,” she remarked. Rizwana called for simplifying service delivery to ensure ordinary citizens are not burdened by unnecessary obstacles, urging collective effort for national progress.
A Call for Collective Social Transformation
On the topic of social change, Rizwana pointed out that while people often blame others for societal shortcomings, they resist internal transformation. “The government alone cannot drive change; every individual must participate in this process,” she added.
Rizwana concluded her speech by asserting that a greener and more sustainable Bangladesh is achievable if people are more aware of their responsibilities.
