Bangladesh: Jubo League Leader Arrested Over Derogatory Remarks on Chief Adviser

A local leader of the ruling party’s youth wing, Jubo League, has been arrested in Nageshwari, Kurigram, for allegedly making and sharing a TikTok video containing derogatory remarks about Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus.

 

The police detained Md. Alam Mia, a member of the Santoshpur Union’s Ward No. 6 Jubo League, from his home in Gopalpur at around 9:00 PM on Monday (February 17).

 

What Are the Allegations?

 

According to police sources, four days ago, Alam Mia uploaded a TikTok video on his account, where he allegedly made offensive remarks about the Chief Adviser and the current state of the country. The video quickly went viral on social media, sparking controversy.

 

Upon noticing the video, the police launched an operation on Monday night and arrested him.

 

Legal Proceedings & Police Statement

 

Confirming the arrest, Nageshwari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rezaul Islam Reza said that the accused was presented before the court on Tuesday morning.

 

A case has been filed regarding the incident, and authorities have stated that they are closely monitoring the spread of provocative content on social media.
