Timir Banik, Moulvibazar :
A CNG auto-rickshaw driver in Moulvibazar’s Barlekha upazila was allegedly strangled to death by his wife and younger brother due to an extramarital affair, according to police sources.
The incident took place late at night between 2 AM and 3 AM on Sunday (February 16) in the Srirampur village of Talimpur Union.
Family members of the deceased claim that the victim, Ujjal Biswas (30), had discovered an illicit relationship between his wife, Dipna Rani Biswas (19), and his younger brother, Jhontu Biswas (25). This led to frequent conflicts between Ujjal and his wife in recent months.
What Happened That Night?
According to local sources and police reports, Dipna and Jhontu planned the murder to eliminate Ujjal. While he was asleep, they allegedly strangled him with a muffler and later dumped his body by the roadside, a short distance from their home.
At dawn, when family members realized Ujjal was missing, they began searching for him. Eventually, they discovered his lifeless body lying by the roadside. Police were informed and later recovered the body, sending it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
What Does the Police Say?
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barlekha Police Station, Abdul Kaiyum, confirmed, “The body has been sent for autopsy, and we have detained the victim’s wife and younger brother on suspicion. During police interrogation, they admitted to the murder.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Kulaura Circle), Kamrul Hasan, stated, “The victim’s father is preparing to file a case. Police are investigating the incident further, and legal action will be taken accordingly.”
Previous Family Disputes
Local residents reported that Ujjal and his wife had been experiencing ongoing conflicts over the alleged affair. He had confronted his wife multiple times, warning her about the consequences. However, the relationship reportedly continued, ultimately leading to the murder.
